History of Be-Part
A timeline reconstructed from the collective’s own website as it was archived between 2004 and 2012.
2002–2004 Shows and flyers
The first website documents local shows through flyer pages for 2002, 2003 and 2004, plus a page per gig (for example Dropdead, MDC, Disorder, Tragedy, Agrotoxico and many more), tour pages, band links and directions to the venue. The front page already carried the motto “be part of the scene, not just the scenery”.
2004–2008 The festival grows
Be-Part.Festival becomes a yearly fixture, with its own pages for 2006 and 2007 (in English and German, with a routing page) and a bilingual programme. The 2008 edition is the fifth.
2007 Be-Part.Records
The site is rebuilt around a label and distribution. The catalogue grows to twelve numbered releases by 2008, from Fall of Efrafa’s double LP “Elil” to End of All, Leadershit / Derrota, Blänt / Nagasaki Nightmare and Asedio.
2008 New site, wider network
A relaunched website brings news, dates, festival information, a distro list and a links page. Distribution extends to other small labels such as Skuld Releases, Ruin Nation, Alerta Antifascista, Tofu Guerrilla, Unsociable and Hate Records.
2009 → Festival VI and the newsletter era
The sixth festival runs 11–14 June 2009 at the Jugendhaus Fasanenhof (football match, skate contest, cooking contest, lecture), and a later newsletter (archived in 2012) lists dozens of new records, from Kylesa and Wolfbrigade to Malachi and Agrimonia.
Principles, in their own words (paraphrased)
- Non-commercial and non-profit: everyone involved is a volunteer.
- Music is punk and hardcore connected to the international D.I.Y. network.
- A political project inspired by anarchist ways of organising, with a flat structure and consensus decisions.
- Open door: anyone who loves the culture can join in.
